What is ship time on a cruise?
Ship time is the time zone your cruise ship runs its clocks on — almost always the departure port's time zone. It does not change when the ship docks in a port that uses a different time zone. Every published all-aboard time refers to ship time.
Does my phone change to ship time automatically?
No — it does the opposite. Your phone updates from the local cell tower when you go ashore, so it shows local port time, not ship time. That mismatch is the most common reason passengers are left behind at the pier.
How do I keep my phone on ship time?
Turn off automatic time zone updates in your phone settings and set the time zone manually to your departure port before you sail. The alternative is an app that keeps both clocks visible at once, which avoids the risk of forgetting to change it back.
Do cruise ships change their clocks?
Mostly no on Caribbean itineraries, where the ship holds the departure port's time throughout. On repositioning and transatlantic sailings crossing several time zones, ships do adjust their clocks — always announced in the daily program, usually overnight.
